Born on February 16, 1936, in Jerusalem, Inbal showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He later switched to the viola and joined the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 15. Inbal studied conducting at the Paris Conservatory with Louis Fourestier and later with Sergiu Celibidache in Munich. He made his conducting debut in 1963 with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and quickly gained recognition for his talent and skill. In 1965, he was appointed the principal conductor of the RIAS Symphony Orchestra in Berlin, a position he held until 1974. During his tenure with the RIAS Symphony Orchestra, Inbal established himself as a leading conductor in Europe. He conducted numerous premieres of contemporary works and collaborated with many renowned soloists, including Martha Argerich, Yehudi Menuhin, and Itzhak Perlman. Inbal's performances were known for their precision, clarity, and emotional depth. In 1974, Inbal was appointed the principal conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until 1990. During his time with the orchestra, he led many successful tours and recordings, including a complete cycle of Mahler's symphonies. Inbal's Mahler cycle was highly acclaimed and established him as one of the leading interpreters of Mahler's music. In addition to his work with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Inbal has conducted many other leading orchestras around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic.
