Macbeth is an opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi, based on the play of the same name by William Shakespeare. The opera was composed in 1847 and premiered at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence, Italy, on March 14, 1847. The libretto was written by Francesco Maria Piave, with revisions by Andrea Maffei. The plot of Macbeth follows the story of the Scottish general Macbeth, who receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become king.
