Compagnia D'Opera Italiana is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing Italian operas. The ensemble was founded in 2004 by the Italian conductor and pianist, Alessandro Siciliani. Siciliani had previously worked as the music director of the Florida Grand Opera and the New Orleans Opera, and he wanted to create an ensemble that would showcase the best of Italian opera to audiences around the world. The main members of Compagnia D'Opera Italiana are the singers, who are all trained in the Italian operatic tradition. The ensemble has a rotating cast of singers, depending on the production, but some of the most notable members include sopranos Maria Luigia Borsi and Francesca Mondanaro, tenors Luciano Lamonarca and Gianluca Terranova, and baritone Marco Nisticò. One of the highlights of Compagnia D'Opera Italiana's career was their performance of Verdi's "La Traviata" at the Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman, in 2011. The production was directed by Franco Zeffirelli, and it received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. The ensemble also performed at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy, in 2013, where they presented a production of Puccini's "La Bohème" that was directed by Franco Zeffirelli and conducted by Riccardo Chailly. Compagnia D'Opera Italiana has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances over the years. In 2008, they were awarded the Premio Abbiati, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the Italian music industry. The award recognized the ensemble's contribution to the promotion and preservation of Italian opera. They have also been awarded the Premio Franco Abbiati and the Premio della Critica Musicale "Franco Abbiati" for their performances of Verdi's "La Traviata" and Puccini's "La Bohème." In addition to their performances of Italian operas, Compagnia D'Opera Italiana has also collaborated with other artists and ensembles to create new works. In 2015, they worked with the Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi to create a new production of his work "Elements." The production featured a combination of classical music, contemporary dance, and multimedia elements, and it was performed at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Overall, Compagnia D'Opera Italiana has established itself as one of the premier ensembles for Italian opera in the world. Their commitment to preserving and promoting this rich musical tradition has earned them numerous awards and accolades, and their performances continue to captivate audiences around the globe.
