Luciano Pavarotti was born on October 12, 1935, in Modena, Italy. He was the son of a baker and grew up in a musical family. His father, Fernando, was a tenor and his mother, Adele, was a soprano. Pavarotti began singing at a young age and was a member of his church choir. He also studied music at the Conservatorio di Musica Arrigo Boito in Parma. Pavarotti made his professional debut in 1961 as Rodolfo in La Bohème at the Teatro Municipale in Reggio Emilia. He quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and expressive performances. In 1963, he made his debut at the Royal Opera House in London as Rodolfo and also made his debut at the Vienna State Opera as the Duke in Rigoletto. Pavarotti's breakthrough came in 1972 when he performed the role of Tonio in Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. His performance of the aria "Ah! Mes amis" earned him a record-breaking 17 curtain calls and established him as one of the world's leading tenors. Pavarotti went on to perform at all of the major opera houses around the world, including La Scala in Milan, the Paris Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Vienna State Opera.
