Paolo Tosti was an Italian composer and music teacher who was born on April 9, 1846, in Ortona, Italy. He was the son of a wealthy merchant and was raised in a musical family. His father played the guitar and sang, and his mother was a pianist. Tosti showed an early interest in music and began studying the piano and singing at a young age. Tosti's musical education began in Naples, where he studied at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella. He studied composition with Saverio Mercadante and singing with Vincenzo Lombardi.
