He made his debut as a soloist in 1954, performing the role of the Speaker in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at the Berlin State Opera. He was particularly renowned for his performances of Wagner's operas, including "The Ring Cycle," "Tristan und Isolde," and "Parsifal." One of Ridderbusch's most memorable performances was his portrayal of Hagen in the 1976 Bayreuth Festival production of "The Ring Cycle."
