GermanyBirth:November 20, 1937 in Berlin, GermanyPeriod:RomanticContemporaryModernGenre:OperaRené Kollo is a renowned German tenor who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on November 20, 1937, in Berlin, Germany, Kollo grew up in a musical family. His father, Walter Kollo, was a famous composer of operettas, and his mother, Renate Müller, was a popular actress and singer. Kollo began his musical training at an early age, studying piano and violin. However, it was his exceptional singing voice that caught the attention of his teachers and peers. He began singing in choirs and local operettas, and by the age of 18, he had decided to pursue a career in opera. In 1957, Kollo made his professional debut at the Stadttheater in Hildesheim, Germany, singing the role of Tamino in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." He quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, and soon began performing in major opera houses throughout Europe. One of Kollo's most notable performances was his portrayal of Siegmund in Wagner's "Die Walküre" at the Bayreuth Festival in 1970. His performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and technical skill, and it cemented his reputation as one of the leading Wagnerian tenors of his time. Kollo also had a successful career as a concert singer, performing with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Schubert, and Mahler. Throughout his career, Kollo received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1984, he was awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin, and in 1997, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was also named a Kammersänger, or "chamber singer," by the Berlin State Opera in 1987. Kollo retired from performing in 2007, but his legacy as one of the greatest tenors of the 20th century lives on. His recordings and performances continue to inspire and captivate audiences around the world, and his contributions to the world of classical music will be remembered for generations to come.More....
