Genre:ConcertoOrchestralThe Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ENSO) is a classical music ensemble based in Tallinn, Estonia. Founded in 1926, the orchestra has a rich history and has become one of the most respected orchestras in Europe. The ENSO was originally founded as the State Broadcasting Orchestra, and its first conductor was Olav Roots. The orchestra quickly gained a reputation for excellence, and in 1939, it was renamed the Estonian State Symphony Orchestra. During World War II, the orchestra was forced to disband, but it was re-established in 1944 under the leadership of conductor Paul Karp. Over the years, the ENSO has had many distinguished conductors, including Neeme Järvi, who served as the orchestra's principal conductor from 1963 to 1979. Under Järvi's leadership, the ENSO gained international recognition and toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States. Today, the ENSO is led by conductor and music director Neeme Järvi's son, Paavo Järvi. Paavo Järvi has been the orchestra's music director since 2010 and has continued the tradition of excellence established by his father. The ENSO is made up of approximately 100 musicians, and its repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Baroque to contemporary. The orchestra performs regularly at the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn, as well as at other venues throughout Estonia and abroad. One of the ENSO's most notable performances was its 2011 concert at the BBC Proms in London. The orchestra performed works by Estonian composers Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis, as well as Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5. The concert was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and was widely praised by critics. In addition to its performances, the ENSO has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2004, the orchestra was awarded the Order of the White Star, one of Estonia's highest honors, for its contributions to Estonian culture. The ENSO has also been nominated for several Grammy Awards for its recordings, including a 2014 nomination for Best Orchestral Performance for its recording of Sibelius' Symphonies Nos. 1 and 4. Overall, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra is a world-class ensemble with a rich history and a bright future. Its commitment to excellence and its dedication to promoting Estonian culture have made it a beloved institution in Estonia and a respected ambassador of Estonian music around the world.More....
