Born on June 6, 1960, in Halle, Germany, Schleiermacher showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He received his first piano lessons from his mother, who was a music teacher. Schleiermacher's talent for music was evident from an early age, and he went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar, where he received his diploma in piano performance in 1984. He continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig, where he received his postgraduate degree in 1987.
