Born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1944, Takahashi began her musical journey at a young age. She started playing the piano when she was just three years old and showed a natural talent for the instrument. Her parents recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue music as a career. Takahashi's early years were spent studying music at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo. She received a solid foundation in classical music and developed her skills as a pianist. She also had the opportunity to work with some of the best music teachers in Japan, who helped her refine her technique and develop her musical style. In 1965, Takahashi made her debut as a professional pianist, performing at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space. Her performance was well-received, and she quickly gained a reputation as a talented and skilled pianist. Over the next few years, she performed extensively in Japan, playing in concerts and recitals across the country. In 1970, Takahashi moved to the United States to further her musical education. She enrolled at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied under the renowned pianist Rosina Lhevinne. Takahashi's time at Juilliard was a turning point in her career.
