Georg Hann was a renowned classical music artist who was born on 22nd May 1897 in Vienna, Austria. He was a bass-baritone singer who was known for his powerful voice and his ability to perform a wide range of musical genres. Hann was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known conductor in Vienna. From a young age, Hann showed a keen interest in music, and he began his musical training at the Vienna Conservatory. Hann's musical career began in the early 1920s when he started performing in various opera houses in Austria and Germany. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented singer, and his performances were highly praised by critics and audiences alike. In 1924, Hann made his debut at the Vienna State Opera, where he performed the role of Rocco in Beethoven's opera "Fidelio." This performance was a major success, and it marked the beginning of Hann's long and illustrious career. Over the next few years, Hann continued to perform in various opera houses across Europe, including the Berlin State Opera, the Munich State Opera, and the Royal Opera House in London. He also performed in several concerts and recitals, where he showcased his versatility as a singer. One of the highlights of Hann's career was his performance in the 1936 Salzburg Festival, where he performed the role of Osmin in Mozart's opera "Die Entführung aus dem Serail." Hann also performed in several other Salzburg Festivals over the years, and he became a regular fixture at this prestigious event. Hann's career was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II, and he was drafted into the German army in 1941. However, he continued to perform for the troops, and he even gave concerts in prisoner-of-war camps. After the war, Hann resumed his musical career, and he continued to perform in various opera houses and concerts across Europe. In 1950, Hann made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he performed the role of Hunding in Wagner's opera "Die Walküre." This performance was a major success, and it marked the beginning of Hann's career in the United States. Over the next few years, Hann performed in several other operas at the Metropolitan Opera, including "Don Giovanni," "The Marriage of Figaro," and "The Magic Flute." In 1957, he was awarded the title of Kammersänger by the Austrian government, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a singer in Austria.
