The group was founded in 1986 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for brass music and a desire to create a unique sound that blended traditional brass instruments with modern techniques and styles. The founding members of London Brass were trumpeters David Blackadder and Paul Archibald, horn player Richard Bissill, trombonist Lindsay Shilling, tuba player Patrick Harrild, and percussionist Eric Crees. Each member brought a wealth of experience and talent to the group, having performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and ensembles. From the beginning, London Brass set out to push the boundaries of brass music, experimenting with new sounds and styles while still paying homage to the classical traditions that had come before them. The group quickly gained a reputation for their virtuosic performances and innovative arrangements, and soon began to attract a loyal following of fans and critics alike. Over the years, London Brass has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues and festivals, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms. They have also collaborated with some of the biggest names in classical music, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and Sir Neville Marriner. One of the highlights of London Brass's career came in 1997, when they were invited to perform at the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. The group performed a selection of classical and traditional music, including Handel's "Zadok the Priest" and "I Was Glad" by Sir Charles Hubert Parry. In addition to their live performances, London Brass has also released several critically acclaimed albums over the years. Their debut album, "London Brass," was released in 1987 and featured a mix of classical and contemporary pieces. Since then, the group has released over a dozen albums, including "Christmas with London Brass," "Brass from the Masters," and "The London Sound." London Brass has also been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1991, they were awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Ensemble Award, and in 1996 they were named Brass Ensemble of the Year by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters. They have also been nominated for several Grammy Awards, including Best Classical Crossover Album for their 1998 album "The Lure of the Red Jacket." Despite their many achievements, London Brass remains committed to pushing the boundaries of brass music and exploring new sounds and styles. They continue to tour and perform around the world, delighting audiences with their virtuosic performances and innovative arrangements.More....
