Born on April 11, 1956, in Toronto, Canada, Robbin grew up in a musical family. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist. Robbin began singing at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Robbin received her formal training at the University of Toronto, where she studied with Mary Morrison. She also studied with Jan Simons at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. After completing her studies, Robbin began her professional career as a member of the Canadian Opera Company. Robbin's career took off in the 1980s when she began performing with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and opera companies. She made her debut with the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1985, singing the role of Cherubino in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." She also performed with the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris Opera, and the Vienna State Opera. Robbin's repertoire includes a wide range of works, from Baroque to contemporary music. She is particularly known for her interpretations of Handel's operas and oratorios. She has also performed works by Bach, Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, and Wagner, among others. Robbin has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 1987, she won the Juno Award for Best Classical Album for her recording of Handel's "Ariodante." She has also been awarded the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest honors, for her contributions to the arts. One of Robbin's most memorable performances was her portrayal of Dido in Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" at the Glyndebourne Festival in 1995. Her performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and musicality. She has also received critical acclaim for her performances in Handel's "Messiah" and "Theodora." Robbin has also been active as a teacher and mentor. She has taught at the University of Toronto and the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music. She has also served as a judge for various singing competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. In addition to her work as a performer and teacher, Robbin has been involved in various charitable organizations. She has served on the board of directors for the Canadian Music Centre and has been a spokesperson for the Canadian Cancer Society.
