He made his debut as a soloist in 1953, performing the role of Tamino in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at the Vienna State Opera. This performance marked the beginning of Kmentt's illustrious career as a tenor. Over the years, Kmentt performed in numerous operas and concerts, both in Austria and abroad. He was particularly renowned for his performances of Mozart's works, including "The Marriage of Figaro," "Don Giovanni," and "Così fan tutte." Kmentt's voice was characterized by its clarity, warmth, and expressiveness, which made him a favorite among audiences and critics alike. One of Kmentt's most significant performances was his portrayal of the role of Don Ottavio in Mozart's "Don Giovanni" at the Salzburg Festival in 1957.
