Born on October 6, 1937, in Czestochowa, Poland, Ochman grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Ochman's parents recognized his musical talent at an early age and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Ochman began his musical education at the State Music School in Czestochowa, where he studied piano and violin. However, he soon realized that his true passion was singing, and he began taking voice lessons. In 1957, Ochman enrolled at the State Higher School of Music in Katowice, where he studied under the renowned Polish tenor, Tadeusz Kozlowski. After completing his studies, Ochman made his professional debut in 1963 at the Wroclaw Opera, where he performed the role of Lensky in Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin." His performance was well-received, and he quickly established himself as one of the leading tenors in Poland. In 1965, Ochman made his debut at the Warsaw Opera, where he performed the role of Alfredo in Verdi's "La Traviata." His performance was a huge success, and he was soon invited to perform at other major opera houses in Europe, including the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Paris Opera. Throughout his career, Ochman has performed a wide range of roles, including Don Jose in Bizet's "Carmen," the Duke in Verdi's "Rigoletto," and the title role in Mozart's "Don Giovanni." He has also performed in numerous concerts and recitals, showcasing his versatility as a singer. One of the highlights of Ochman's career was his performance in the 1978 production of "Tristan und Isolde" at the Bayreuth Festival. Ochman played the role of Tristan, and his performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and intensity. The production was directed by the legendary German director, Wolfgang Wagner, and conducted by his brother, Wieland Wagner. Ochman has also received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1974, he was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta, one of the highest honors in Poland. In 1985, he was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Czestochowa" in recognition of his contributions to the city's cultural life. In 1997, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his contributions to German culture. Despite his many accomplishments, Ochman remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of singers. His legacy as one of the greatest tenors of his generation is secure, and his contributions to the world of classical music will be remembered for generations to come.More....
