Gabriela Benacková is a renowned Czech soprano who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on June 25, 1941, in Bratislava, Slovakia, she grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. Her father was a conductor, and her mother was a singer, which inspired her to pursue a career in music. Benacková studied at the Bratislava Conservatory and later at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. She made her debut in 1963 at the National Theatre in Prague, where she performed the role of Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème. Her performance was well-received, and she quickly gained recognition as a talented soprano. Throughout her career, Benacková has performed in numerous operas, concerts, and recitals, both in her home country and abroad. She has worked with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras, including Sir Georg Solti, Claudio Abbado, and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. One of the highlights of Benacková's career was her performance in the title role of Dvořák's Rusalka at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1993. Her performance was highly acclaimed, and she received a standing ovation from the audience. She also performed in the same role at the Royal Opera House in London and the Vienna State Opera. Benacková has also received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1970, she won the International Singing Competition in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. She was awarded the title of National Artist of the Czech Republic in 1994, and in 2001, she was awarded the Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, one of the highest honors in the Czech Republic. In addition to her performances, Benacková has also been involved in teaching and mentoring young singers. She has taught at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and has served as a jury member for several international singing competitions. Despite facing health issues in recent years, Benacková continues to perform and inspire audiences with her beautiful voice and passion for music. She remains a beloved figure in the world of classical music and a true icon of Czech culture.
