He also studied with other notable teachers, including Jennie Tourel and Martial Singher. During his time at Juilliard, Riegel honed his skills as a singer and developed a deep understanding of the art of classical singing. Riegel's professional career began in the early 1970s when he made his debut with the New York City Opera. He quickly established himself as a leading tenor, and his performances were praised for their clarity, power, and emotional depth. One of Riegel's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Mozart's "Idomeneo" at the Metropolitan Opera in 1982.
