Ettore Stratta was a renowned classical music artist who made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on April 7, 1931, in Cerignola, Italy. Stratta was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a violinist. He began his musical journey at a young age, and his father was his first teacher. Stratta showed a natural talent for music, and he quickly became proficient in playing the violin. At the age of 12, Stratta moved to Rome to study at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. He continued to excel in his studies and won several awards for his performances. In 1950, Stratta moved to the United States to further his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City. He studied under the renowned violinist Ivan Galamian and graduated with a degree in violin performance. After completing his studies, Stratta began his career as a violinist and conductor. He performed with several orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Stratta also performed as a soloist and recorded several albums. In the 1960s, Stratta began to focus more on conducting. He became the conductor of the New York Pops Orchestra in 1980 and held the position for over 20 years. Stratta also conducted several other orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. One of Stratta's most significant achievements was his work on the soundtrack for the film "Amadeus." Stratta conducted the London Symphony Orchestra for the film, which won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Stratta's work on the soundtrack helped to bring classical music to a wider audience and introduced a new generation to the music of Mozart. Throughout his career, Stratta received several awards and honors for his contributions to the world of music. In 1991, he was awarded the Cavaliere Ufficiale dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana, one of Italy's highest honors. Stratta was also awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1995 for his contributions to the arts. In addition to his work as a conductor and violinist, Stratta was also a composer. He composed several pieces of music, including a concerto for violin and orchestra and a suite for string orchestra. Stratta continued to perform and conduct until his death on March 25, 2015, at the age of 83. He left behind a legacy of excellence in the world of classical music and inspired countless musicians and music lovers around the world.
