ItalyFormed:November 10, 1928 in Rome, ItalyDisband:July 6, 2020 in Rome, ItalyGenre:FilmEnnio Morricone was an Italian composer and conductor who is widely regarded as one of the most influential and innovative composers of the 20th century. He was born on November 10, 1928, in Rome, Italy, to a family of musicians. His father, Mario Morricone, was a trumpet player and his mother, Libera Ridolfi, was a singer. Morricone showed an early interest in music and began studying the trumpet at the age of six. Morricone's musical education began at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, where he studied composition, trumpet, and choral music. He graduated in 1954 with a diploma in trumpet and a degree in composition. During his time at the conservatory, Morricone was influenced by the works of composers such as Igor Stravinsky, Arnold Schoenberg, and Anton Webern. After graduating from the conservatory, Morricone began working as a freelance composer and arranger. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative and experimental approach to music, and his ability to blend different musical styles and genres. In the early 1960s, Morricone began working in the film industry, composing music for a number of Italian films. Morricone's breakthrough came in 1964, when he composed the score for Sergio Leone's film "A Fistful of Dollars". The film was a huge success, and Morricone's score, which featured a distinctive blend of Western and traditional Italian music, became an instant classic. Morricone went on to compose the scores for a number of Leone's films, including "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". Morricone's work in the film industry brought him international recognition and acclaim. He went on to compose music for over 500 films, including "The Battle of Algiers", "The Mission", and "Cinema Paradiso". His music was characterized by its use of unconventional instruments, such as the Jew's harp and the ocarina, and its ability to evoke a wide range of emotions and moods. In addition to his work in the film industry, Morricone also composed a number of concert works, including symphonies, chamber music, and choral works. His concert works were often inspired by his film scores, and featured similar themes and motifs. Morricone's contributions to the world of music were recognized with numerous awards and honors. He won five Academy Awards, including an honorary award in 2007, and was nominated for a total of six. He also won three Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a BAFTA Award. In 2016, he was awarded the Polar Music Prize, one of the most prestigious music awards in the world. Morricone continued to compose music until his death on July 6, 2020, at the age of 91. His legacy as one of the greatest composers of the 20th century lives on through his music, which continues to inspire and influence musicians and audiences around the world.More....
