GermanyBirth:August, 1653 in Nuremberg, GermanyDeath:March, 1706 in Nuremberg, GermanyPeriod:BaroqueGenre:ChamberKeyboardJohann Pachelbel was a German composer and organist who lived from 1653 to 1706. He was born in Nuremberg, Germany, to a family of musicians. His father, Johann Pachelbel Sr., was a successful organist and composer, and his older brother, Johann Matthäus Pachelbel, was also a musician. Pachelbel began his musical education at a young age, studying with his father and brother. He later studied at the University of Altdorf and the Gymnasium Poeticum in Regensburg. In 1673, he became the organist at St. Sebaldus Church in Nuremberg, a position he held for the rest of his life. Pachelbel's early works were primarily vocal music, including sacred choral works and secular songs. He also wrote a number of instrumental works, including chamber music and keyboard pieces. His most famous work is the Canon in D, a piece for three violins and continuo that has become a staple of classical music. Pachelbel's music was highly regarded during his lifetime, and he was considered one of the leading composers of his time. His works were widely performed and published, and he was known for his skill as an organist and improviser. Despite his success, Pachelbel's life was not without its challenges. He struggled with financial difficulties throughout his career, and his wife and infant son both died in 1683. He later remarried and had several more children, but his financial situation remained precarious. Pachelbel continued to compose and perform throughout his life, and his music remained popular after his death. His influence can be heard in the works of later composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Today, Pachelbel is remembered as one of the great composers of the Baroque era, and his music continues to be performed and enjoyed by audiences around the world.More....
