Capella Istropolitana is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1983 in Bratislava, Slovakia. The ensemble is known for its performances of baroque and classical music, and has gained international recognition for its recordings and live performances. The founding members of Capella Istropolitana were a group of young musicians who had recently graduated from the Bratislava Conservatory. They were led by conductor and violinist Jaroslav Krček, who had previously worked with the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. Krček was passionate about baroque and classical music, and wanted to create an ensemble that would specialize in this repertoire. The ensemble's name, Capella Istropolitana, is a reference to the city of Bratislava, which was known as Pressburg or Pozsony in the past. Istropolitana is a Latinized version of the city's name, and Capella refers to a musical group. Capella Istropolitana's early performances were focused on baroque and classical music, with an emphasis on the works of composers such as Bach, Handel, and Mozart. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances, and began to tour internationally. One of the highlights of Capella Istropolitana's early career was its performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1985. The ensemble performed Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor, and received critical acclaim for its interpretation of the piece. This performance helped to establish Capella Istropolitana as a leading ensemble in the world of classical music. Over the years, Capella Istropolitana has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals around the world. The ensemble has also collaborated with many renowned soloists, including violinist Nigel Kennedy and pianist Maria João Pires. In addition to its live performances, Capella Istropolitana has also recorded extensively. The ensemble has released over 100 albums, many of which have received critical acclaim and won awards. Some of the ensemble's most popular recordings include its interpretations of Mozart's symphonies, as well as its recordings of baroque music by composers such as Vivaldi and Corelli. Capella Istropolitana has won many awards over the years, including the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or. The ensemble has also been nominated for several Grammy Awards. One of the reasons for Capella Istropolitana's success is its commitment to authenticity in its performances. The ensemble uses period instruments and follows historical performance practices, which helps to recreate the sound of the music as it would have been heard in the past. Another factor in Capella Istropolitana's success is the talent and dedication of its members. Over the years, the ensemble has included many talented musicians, including violinist Bohdan Warchal and cellist Ján Slávik. These musicians have helped to create a unique sound for the ensemble, and have contributed to its success. Today, Capella Istropolitana continues to perform and record, and remains one of the leading ensembles in the world of classical music. The ensemble's commitment to authenticity and its dedication to the music of the baroque and classical periods have helped to make it a favorite among audiences and critics alike.
