He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known violinist. Jozef showed an interest in music from a young age and began playing the violin at the age of six. Jozef's talent was quickly recognized, and he was accepted into the Krakow Music Academy at the age of 14. He studied under some of the most renowned violinists of the time, including Henryk Szeryng and David Oistrakh. Jozef's dedication and hard work paid off, and he graduated with honors from the academy. After completing his studies, Jozef began his professional career as a soloist and chamber musician. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and passionate performer, and his performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. One of Jozef's most significant achievements was his performance of Beethoven's Violin Concerto with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra in 1972. The performance was a huge success, and Jozef received critical acclaim for his interpretation of the piece. He went on to perform the concerto with many other orchestras around the world, cementing his reputation as one of the greatest interpreters of Beethoven's music. In addition to his solo performances, Jozef was also a member of several chamber music ensembles. He was a founding member of the Kopelman Quartet, which was formed in 1977.
