Artist Info
Genre:ConcertoI Musici is a classical music ensemble that was founded in Rome, Italy in 1952. The group is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music, and has become one of the most respected and influential ensembles in the world of classical music. The founding members of I Musici were a group of young musicians who were passionate about playing early music on period instruments. The group was led by violinist Felix Ayo, and included other talented musicians such as cellist Antonio Janigro, violist Bruno Giuranna, and harpsichordist Maria Teresa Garatti. Together, they began performing in small venues around Rome, and quickly gained a reputation for their virtuosic playing and innovative interpretations of early music. In 1953, I Musici made their first international tour, performing in Switzerland and Germany. The tour was a great success, and the group soon began to receive invitations to perform in other countries around the world. Over the years, the ensemble has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. One of the highlights of I Musici's career was their recording of Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" in 1955. The recording was a groundbreaking achievement, as it was one of the first recordings of Baroque music on period instruments. The album was a huge success, and helped to establish I Musici as one of the leading ensembles in the world of early music. Over the years, I Musici has continued to record and perform a wide range of Baroque and Classical music, including works by Bach, Handel, Mozart, and Haydn. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the world's leading soloists, including pianist Martha Argerich, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Itzhak Perlman. In addition to their performances and recordings, I Musici has also received numerous awards and honors over the years. In 1961, the group was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for their recording of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. They have also received the Edison Award, the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis, and the Diapason d'Or, among other prestigious awards. Despite the passing of many of its original members, I Musici continues to perform and record today. The ensemble has undergone several changes in personnel over the years, but has remained committed to its mission of performing early music on period instruments with passion and precision. Today, I Musici is led by violinist Antonio Anselmi, and continues to inspire audiences around the world with its beautiful and innovative performances of Baroque and Classical music.More....
