She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Her father recognized her talent for music at a young age and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Beilke began her musical education at the age of six, studying piano and violin. She showed exceptional talent and was soon performing in public concerts. At the age of 12, she won her first competition, the Berlin Music Competition, and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Berlin Conservatory. During her time at the conservatory, Beilke studied under some of the most renowned music teachers of the time, including Carl Flesch and Edwin Fischer. She excelled in her studies and was soon performing in concerts across Europe. Her performances were highly acclaimed, and she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young musicians of her generation. In 1941, Beilke made her debut as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21. The performance was a huge success, and Beilke was praised for her technical skill and musicality. She continued to perform with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra throughout the war years, despite the difficult conditions in Germany at the time. After the war, Beilke continued to perform in concerts across Europe, and her reputation as a world-class musician continued to grow. In 1949, she made her debut in the United States, performing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and Beilke was praised for her virtuosity and musicality. Over the course of her career, Beilke performed with some of the most renowned orchestras in the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She also performed with some of the most celebrated conductors of the time, including Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Wilhelm Furtwängler. Beilke was known for her technical skill and musicality, and she was particularly renowned for her performances of Mozart's piano concertos. She was also a prolific recording artist, and her recordings of Mozart's piano concertos are still considered some of the best recordings of the works. In addition to her performances, Beilke was also a dedicated music teacher. She taught at the Berlin Conservatory and the Salzburg Mozarteum, and her students included some of the most talented young musicians of the time. Throughout her career, Beilke received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to classical music. In 1954, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and in 1961, she was awarded the Mozart Medal by the International Mozarteum Foundation. She was also awarded honorary doctorates from several universities, including the University of Salzburg and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Beilke continued to perform and teach until her retirement in the 1980s. She passed away on December 22, 2005, at the age of 83.
