Elfriede Marherr was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1932, in Vienna, Austria. She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Her father recognized her talent for music at a young age and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Marherr began her musical education at the Vienna Music Academy, where she studied piano and voice. She showed exceptional talent and quickly became one of the top students in her class. She also began to perform in public at a young age, and her performances were well-received by audiences and critics alike. After completing her studies at the Vienna Music Academy, Marherr began to perform professionally. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile musician, and she was invited to perform at some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe. One of Marherr's most notable performances was at the Salzburg Festival in 1956. She performed Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major, K. 467, with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and her performance was widely praised by critics. She was also invited to perform at the Vienna State Opera, where she performed in several productions of Mozart's operas. Marherr's career continued to flourish throughout the 1960s and 1970s. She performed extensively throughout Europe and also made several tours of the United States. She was known for her interpretations of Mozart's music, but she also performed works by other composers, including Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms. In addition to her performances, Marherr was also a respected music educator. She taught at the Vienna Music Academy and also gave masterclasses throughout Europe and the United States. Many of her students went on to have successful careers in music. Marherr received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1964, she was awarded the Mozart Medal by the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg. She was also awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art in 1978 and the Grand Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria in 1992. Marherr continued to perform and teach until her retirement in the 1990s. She passed away on December 22, 2015, at the age of 83. She was remembered as a talented and dedicated musician who made significant contributions to the world of classical music.
