Born on October 23, 1939, in London, England, Sillito showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He received his early training at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under renowned violinist Frederick Grinke. Sillito's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly established himself as a rising star in the classical music world. In 1961, he joined the London Symphony Orchestra as a violinist, where he remained for over a decade. During his time with the orchestra, Sillito performed in numerous concerts and recordings, including the iconic recording of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony conducted by Sir Georg Solti. In 1972, Sillito left the London Symphony Orchestra to join the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, a chamber orchestra founded by Sir Neville Marriner. Sillito quickly became an integral part of the orchestra, serving as its leader and principal violinist for over 30 years. During his tenure with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Sillito performed in countless concerts and recordings, including the Academy's iconic recording of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. Sillito's contributions to the Academy of St Martin in the Fields were not limited to his performances as a violinist. He also served as the orchestra's conductor on numerous occasions, leading the ensemble in performances of works by composers such as Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi.
