Born in Oslo in 1961, Lislevand began playing the guitar at a young age and quickly developed a passion for classical music. He went on to study at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where he received a degree in classical guitar performance. After completing his studies, Lislevand began performing professionally, quickly gaining a reputation as a virtuoso guitarist and lutenist. He has since performed all over the world, playing in some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. One of the highlights of Lislevand's career came in 1991, when he was invited to perform at the prestigious Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, the Netherlands. His performance was a huge success, and he was soon invited to perform at other major festivals, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the Berliner Festwochen. In addition to his work as a performer, Lislevand is also a respected musicologist and scholar. He has written extensively on the history and performance of early music, and has published several books and articles on the subject. He has also served as a professor of early music at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he has mentored many young musicians and helped to shape the next generation of performers.
