The Malmö Opera Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Malmö, Sweden. The orchestra was founded in 1944 and has since become one of the most renowned orchestras in Scandinavia. The Malmö Opera Orchestra is made up of approximately 80 musicians, including strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The orchestra is led by its principal conductor, Tobias Ringborg, who has been with the orchestra since 2012. Over the years, the Malmö Opera Orchestra has performed a wide range of classical music, including works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky. The orchestra has also collaborated with many renowned soloists, including pianist Maria João Pires and violinist Hilary Hahn. One of the highlights of the Malmö Opera Orchestra's history was its performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in 2015. The performance was conducted by Tobias Ringborg and featured the Malmö Opera Chorus and soloists including soprano Elin Rombo and tenor Daniel Johansson. The performance was widely praised for its energy and emotional depth. In addition to its performances, the Malmö Opera Orchestra has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2016, the orchestra was awarded the prestigious Swedish Grammis award for its recording of the opera "The Greek Passion" by Bohuslav Martinů. The recording was conducted by Tobias Ringborg and featured the Malmö Opera Chorus and soloists including tenor Michael Weinius and soprano Annalena Persson.
