He was born on May 10, 1968, in Jönköping, Sweden. Sivelöv grew up in a musical family, and his father was a pianist and music teacher. He started playing the piano at the age of five and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Sivelöv studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and later at the Juilliard School in New York. He has won numerous awards and prizes throughout his career, including the Nordic Council Music Prize in 2009, the Léonie Sonning Music Prize in 2018, and the Swedish Royal Academy of Music's Litteris et Artibus medal in 2019.
