He received his formal education at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he studied under the renowned composer and conductor Christoph Ernst Friedrich Weyse. Gade's early compositions were heavily influenced by the works of Felix Mendelssohn, whom he met in Leipzig in 1843. Mendelssohn was impressed by Gade's talent and invited him to conduct the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. This was a significant turning point in Gade's career, as it gave him the opportunity to showcase his talents on an international stage. Gade's compositions were well-received by audiences and critics alike, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the leading composers of his time.
