Musica Vitae is a classical music ensemble based in Växjö, Sweden. The ensemble was founded in 1983 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The founding members included violinists Malin Broman and Per Enoksson, violist Lars Anders Tomter, cellist Mats Rondin, and pianist Bengt Forsberg. From the beginning, Musica Vitae aimed to bring chamber music to a wider audience and to explore new ways of presenting classical music. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. Musica Vitae's repertoire includes both classical masterpieces and contemporary works, and the ensemble often collaborates with composers and other artists to create new works and performances. Over the years, Musica Vitae has performed at major concert halls and festivals around the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Salzburg Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with many renowned soloists, including Anne-Sophie Mutter, Joshua Bell, and Yo-Yo Ma. One of Musica Vitae's most notable achievements was its performance of all of Mozart's violin concertos in a single concert, which took place in 1991. The concert was a marathon event, lasting over four hours, and featured Per Enoksson as the soloist. The performance was widely praised for its technical virtuosity and emotional depth. Musica Vitae has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors over the years. In 1995, the ensemble was awarded the Swedish Grammy for Best Classical Album for its recording of works by the Swedish composer Lars Johan Werle. In 2003, Musica Vitae was awarded the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's Interpretation Prize for its "outstanding contributions to the interpretation of chamber music." Today, Musica Vitae continues to be one of Sweden's most respected and innovative classical music ensembles. The ensemble's current members include violinists Malin Broman and Cecilia Zilliacus, violist Tommie Lundberg, cellist Mats Rondin, and pianist Bengt Forsberg. Musica Vitae's performances are known for their technical precision, emotional depth, and creative programming, and the ensemble remains committed to bringing classical music to new audiences and exploring new ways of presenting this timeless art form.
