Birth:March 15, 1927 in Hammond, INGenre:ChamberConcertoAaron Rosand was an American violinist who was born on March 15, 1927, in Hammond, Indiana. He was the son of Ukrainian immigrants who had settled in the United States. Rosand began playing the violin at the age of three, and by the time he was six, he was already performing in public. He studied with Leon Sametini, a former student of Eugene Ysaÿe, and later with Efrem Zimbalist at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Rosand made his debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the age of ten, and he went on to perform with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He was known for his rich, warm tone and his virtuosic technique, and he was considered one of the greatest violinists of his generation. Rosand was also a prolific recording artist, and he recorded over 20 albums during his career. His recordings of the violin concertos of Tchaikovsky, Brahms, and Sibelius are considered some of the finest ever made. He was also a champion of lesser-known works by composers such as Wieniawski, Sarasate, and Saint-Saëns. In addition to his performing career, Rosand was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School, and the University of Illinois, among other institutions. His students included many successful violinists, such as Elmar Oliveira, Jennifer Koh, and Vadim Gluzman. Throughout his career, Rosand received many honors and awards. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President George W. Bush in 2007, and he was also a recipient of the Avery Fisher Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. In 2013, he was inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. Rosand continued to perform and teach well into his 80s, and he remained an active and influential figure in the world of classical music until his death on July 9, 2019, at the age of 92. He was remembered by his colleagues and students as a passionate and dedicated musician who had a profound impact on the world of classical music.More....
