Birth:March 12, 1926Death:May 28, 2014Genre:ChamberOrchestralDavid Nadien was a renowned classical music artist who was born on February 21, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Russian immigrants who had a passion for music. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. David was introduced to music at a very young age, and he showed a natural talent for playing the violin. David began his formal music education at the age of six when he started taking violin lessons. He was a prodigious talent, and by the age of ten, he had already performed with the New York Philharmonic. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School of Music, where he was a student of Ivan Galamian, one of the most renowned violin teachers of the 20th century. In 1947, at the age of 18, David won the prestigious Naumburg International Violin Competition, which launched his career as a soloist. He went on to perform with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. David was known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. He was also a champion of contemporary music and premiered works by composers such as Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, and Aaron Copland. One of David's most memorable performances was his solo performance of Bach's Chaconne in D minor at the funeral of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. His performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and sensitivity, and it remains one of the most iconic musical moments in American history. David was also a prolific recording artist, and he recorded over 100 albums throughout his career. He was particularly renowned for his recordings of the complete works of Bach for solo violin, which are considered some of the definitive recordings of these works. In addition to his solo career, David was also a member of the New York Philharmonic for over 30 years. He served as the orchestra's concertmaster from 1966 to 1970 and again from 1973 to 1976. He was also a member of the orchestra's board of directors and served as the chairman of the orchestra's artistic advisory committee. David was the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1983, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Ronald Reagan, which is the highest honor given to artists by the United States government. He was also awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in 1980, which is one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. David continued to perform and teach until his death on May 28, 2014, at the age of 85. He was remembered as one of the greatest violinists of his generation and a true ambassador for classical music. His legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians and music lovers around the world.More....
