Born on August 27, 1946, in New York City, Raimondi grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Emanuel Raimondi, was a violinist with the New York Philharmonic, and his mother, Lillian Fuchs, was a violist and composer. Raimondi's siblings, Joseph and Kenneth, are also accomplished musicians. Raimondi began his musical training at an early age, studying violin with his father and viola with his mother. He attended the Juilliard School, where he studied with Ivan Galamian and William Lincer. He also studied chamber music with Felix Galimir and the Juilliard String Quartet. In 1968, Raimondi joined the Juilliard String Quartet as its second violinist, replacing Robert Koff. He remained with the quartet until 1974, during which time he performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe. The quartet's recordings during this period, including works by Beethoven, Bartok, and Schoenberg, received critical acclaim. After leaving the Juilliard String Quartet, Raimondi continued to perform as a soloist and chamber musician. He has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including pianist Emanuel Ax, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Isaac Stern. He has also performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Guarneri Quartet. Raimondi has recorded extensively throughout his career, both as a soloist and as a member of various ensembles. His recordings include works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Bartok, among others. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his recordings, including a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance in 1982 for his recording of the Brahms String Quintets with the Guarneri Quartet. In addition to his performing career, Raimondi has also been active as a teacher. He has taught at the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Maryland. He has also given masterclasses throughout the United States and Europe. Throughout his career, Raimondi has been recognized for his contributions to the world of music. In 1995, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of his artistic achievements. In 2006, he was awarded the Samuel Sanders Collaborative Artist Award by the Classical Recording Foundation.
