Brecker's older brother, Michael Brecker, was also a renowned jazz saxophonist. Brecker began playing the trumpet at the age of 8 and was soon performing in local bands. In New York, Brecker quickly established himself as a talented musician and began playing with some of the city's top jazz musicians, including Horace Silver, Clark Terry, and Duke Pearson. In 1969, he joined the jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears, where he played trumpet and flugelhorn and contributed to the band's hit album "Blood, Sweat & Tears 3." Brecker left Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1970 to form the jazz-rock band Dreams with his brother Michael. The band released two albums, "Dreams" and "Imagine My Surprise," before disbanding in 1972. After Dreams, Brecker became a sought-after session musician and played on numerous albums by artists such as Steely Dan, James Taylor, and Frank Zappa. He also formed the Brecker Brothers with his brother Michael, a jazz fusion band that released several successful albums in the 1970s and 1980s. Brecker's solo career began in the late 1970s with the release of his debut album, "Score." He went on to release several successful albums as a solo artist, including "In the Idiom" and "Into the Sun."
