Period:ClassicalRomanticModernGenre:ChoralOperaSymphonyEndrik Wottrich was a German tenor known for his powerful voice and dramatic performances in the world of classical music. He was born on January 18, 1963, in Berlin, Germany, and grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a conductor, and his mother was a singer, which inspired him to pursue a career in music. Wottrich began his musical training at a young age, studying piano and singing in choirs. He later attended the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where he studied voice with Professor Renate Faltin. After completing his studies, he made his professional debut in 1989 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he performed the role of Tamino in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Wottrich quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and dramatic stage presence, and he went on to perform in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Vienna State Opera. He was particularly known for his performances in the operas of Richard Wagner, including "Tristan und Isolde," "Die Walküre," and "Parsifal." One of Wottrich's most memorable performances was his portrayal of Siegmund in Wagner's "Die Walküre" at the Bayreuth Festival in 1998. His performance was widely praised for its emotional intensity and vocal power, and it helped establish him as one of the leading Wagnerian tenors of his generation. In addition to his work in opera, Wottrich was also a sought-after concert performer, and he appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He was particularly known for his performances of the works of Gustav Mahler, and he recorded several of Mahler's symphonies with the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle. Throughout his career, Wottrich received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 1997, he was awarded the title of Kammersänger by the Berlin State Opera, and in 2002, he received the Order of Merit of Berlin for his artistic achievements. He was also a recipient of the Echo Klassik Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the world of classical music. Tragically, Wottrich's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. He continued to perform despite his illness, and his final performance was in a production of Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde" at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2011. He passed away on January 31, 2012, at the age of 49, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most talented and passionate tenors of his generation.More....
