BBC Chorus is a renowned classical music artist that has been captivating audiences for decades. The choir was founded in 1924 and has since become one of the most respected and celebrated choirs in the world. The BBC Chorus has performed with some of the most famous conductors and orchestras in the world, and has won numerous awards for their outstanding performances. The BBC Chorus was founded by Sir Adrian Boult, who was the conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the time. Boult wanted to create a choir that would be able to perform the great choral works of the past, as well as new works by contemporary composers. The choir was made up of amateur singers who were selected through auditions. The first performance of the BBC Chorus was in 1924, when they performed Handel's Messiah with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Over the years, the BBC Chorus has grown in size and reputation. They have performed with some of the most famous conductors and orchestras in the world, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and the London Symphony Orchestra. The choir has also performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Centre, and the Edinburgh Festival. One of the highlights of the BBC Chorus's career was their performance of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem in 1963. The performance was conducted by the composer himself, and was broadcast live on television. The performance was a huge success, and helped to establish the BBC Chorus as one of the leading choirs in the world. The BBC Chorus has also won numerous awards for their outstanding performances. In 2015, they won the Gramophone Choral Award for their recording of Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil. The choir has also won the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award, the Classical Brit Award, and the Olivier Award. Despite their many achievements, the BBC Chorus remains committed to their mission of bringing great choral music to audiences around the world.
