Genre:ChamberStephane Lemelin is a renowned classical pianist and professor of music at the University of Ottawa. Born in Quebec City, Canada in 1961, Lemelin began his musical journey at a young age. He started playing the piano at the age of five and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. His parents recognized his potential and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Lemelin received his early musical education at the Conservatoire de musique de Quebec, where he studied with Yvonne Hubert. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree under the tutelage of Adele Marcus. He then went on to earn his Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Constance Keene. Throughout his career, Lemelin has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician. He has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Orchestre symphonique de Quebec. He has also performed at major music festivals around the world, including the Festival de Lanaudiere, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, and the Festival de Musique de Saint-Barthelemy. One of the highlights of Lemelin's career was his performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in 1995. The performance was hailed by critics as a triumph, with one reviewer describing Lemelin's playing as "exquisite, with a perfect balance of power and sensitivity." Lemelin has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1984, he was awarded the prestigious Prix d'Europe, which allowed him to study in Europe for a year. He has also been a recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts' Career Development Grant, which provided him with funding to further his musical studies and career. In addition to his performing career, Lemelin is also a highly respected music educator. He has been a professor of music at the University of Ottawa since 1991, where he teaches piano and chamber music.
