Her father, Petru Nemtanu, was a violinist, and her mother, Carmen, was a pianist. Sarah's parents recognized her talent for music at a young age and encouraged her to pursue it. Sarah began playing the violin at the age of four and quickly showed a natural aptitude for the instrument. She received her first violin lessons from her father and later studied at the George Enescu Music High School in Bucharest. In 1998, Sarah moved to Paris to continue her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
