Born on October 22, 1938, in Paris, France, Poulet showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He was a prodigious talent and quickly gained recognition for his exceptional skills. Poulet's musical education began at the Conservatoire National de Musique in Paris, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned violinist and pedagogue, René Benedetti. He later continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York, where he was mentored by Ivan Galamian, one of the most influential violin teachers of the 20th century. Poulet's talent and dedication to his craft soon began to pay off, and he quickly gained recognition as one of the most promising young violinists of his generation. In 1960, he won first prize at the prestigious International Violin Competition in Geneva, Switzerland, which launched his career as a soloist. Over the years, Poulet has performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, and Seiji Ozawa. Poulet's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of French composers, such as Debussy, Ravel, and Saint-Saëns. In 1972, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of the complete works of Ravel for violin and piano. He has also been awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, one of France's highest cultural honors. He has taught at the Conservatoire National de Musique in Paris, the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
