He was born on 16th January 1942 in Helsinki, Finland. Noras was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known violinist. His father's influence played a significant role in shaping Noras's musical career. Noras began playing the cello at the age of six, and by the time he was ten, he had already performed in public. He studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he was taught by the legendary cellist, Yrjö Selin. Noras's talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition as a promising young cellist. In 1966, Noras won the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, which marked the beginning of his international career. He went on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. Noras's performances were always highly acclaimed, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the finest cellists of his generation. Noras's repertoire was vast, and he was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Finnish composers, such as Jean Sibelius and Einojuhani Rautavaara.
