Born on 9th May 1960 in Lancashire, England, Sherratt grew up in a musical family and was exposed to music from a young age. His father was a church organist, and his mother was a singer, which inspired him to pursue a career in music. Sherratt began his musical training at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he studied under the tutelage of Patrick McGuigan. He then went on to study at the National Opera Studio in London, where he honed his skills and developed his unique style. Sherratt made his professional debut in 1987, playing the role of Colline in Puccini's La bohème at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. This was followed by a series of successful performances in various operas, including Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Verdi's Falstaff, and Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. Over the years, Sherratt has performed in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Paris Opera. He has also worked with some of the most renowned conductors and directors in the industry, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Antonio Pappano, and Sir David McVicar. One of Sherratt's most notable performances was his portrayal of King Marke in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in 2003. His performance was widely praised by critics, who hailed him as one of the finest bass-baritones of his generation. He also received critical acclaim for his performance as Hunding in Wagner's Die Walküre at the Royal Opera House in 2018.
