Artist Info
Genre:ConcertoOperaOrchestralThe Orchestre de Paris is a classical music ensemble based in Paris, France. It was founded in 1967 by the French government as part of a plan to create a new orchestra that would rival the great orchestras of Europe. The orchestra's first concert was held on November 14, 1967, under the direction of conductor Charles Munch. Over the years, the Orchestre de Paris has become one of the most respected and renowned orchestras in the world. It has performed with some of the greatest conductors and soloists of our time, and has won numerous awards and accolades for its performances. The orchestra's main members include its conductor, Daniel Harding, who has been with the orchestra since 2016. Other notable members include concertmaster Laurent Korcia, principal cellist Eric Picard, and principal bassoonist Pascal Gallois. One of the highlights of the Orchestre de Paris's history was its performance at the opening ceremony of the 1998 World Cup in France. The orchestra performed a piece composed by French composer Maurice Jarre, which was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world. The orchestra has also won numerous awards for its recordings, including several Grammy Awards. In 2015, the orchestra won the International Classical Music Award for its recording of the complete works of Maurice Ravel. In addition to its performances in Paris, the Orchestre de Paris has toured extensively throughout the world. It has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Despite its many achievements, the Orchestre de Paris has faced some challenges over the years. In 2015, the French government announced plans to merge the orchestra with the Orchestre National de France, another major French orchestra. The decision was met with widespread criticism from musicians and music lovers, who argued that the merger would lead to a loss of artistic identity and quality. Despite these challenges, the Orchestre de Paris remains one of the most respected and beloved orchestras in the world. Its commitment to excellence and its dedication to preserving the rich tradition of classical music have made it a true cultural treasure of France and the world.More....
