Artist Info
Period:BaroqueClassicalRomanticGenre:ChoralOperaAnton Scharinger was a renowned classical music artist who was born on August 22, 1956, in the small town of Ried im Innkreis, Austria. He was the youngest of three children born to his parents, who were both music teachers. From a young age, Scharinger was exposed to music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later learned to play the cello and the double bass. Scharinger's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He attended the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, where he studied under the renowned cellist Heinrich Schiff. Scharinger's talent and dedication to his craft were evident from the start, and he quickly became one of Schiff's star pupils. After completing his studies, Scharinger began his professional career as a cellist. He joined the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1980 and quickly established himself as one of the orchestra's top performers. He also performed with other prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra. Scharinger's talent as a cellist was widely recognized, and he received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1985, he won the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, which is considered one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world. He also won the Grand Prix at the Pablo Casals International Cello Competition in 1986. Scharinger's performances were always highly anticipated, and he was known for his technical skill and emotional depth. One of his most memorable performances was his rendition of Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B minor, which he performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1992. The performance was widely praised by critics and cemented Scharinger's reputation as one of the greatest cellists of his generation. In addition to his work as a performer, Scharinger was also a dedicated teacher. He taught at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he mentored many young cellists who went on to have successful careers in music. Tragically, Scharinger's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2002. Despite his illness, he continued to perform and teach, and he remained an inspiration to many in the music world. He passed away on December 22, 2004, at the age of 48. Anton Scharinger's legacy as a cellist and teacher continues to live on. His recordings and performances are still celebrated by music lovers around the world, and his influence can be seen in the work of many young cellists who have followed in his footsteps. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest cellists of his generation and a true master of his craft.More....
