She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Her father recognized her talent for singing at an early age and began to train her voice. She made her debut at the age of 17 in a performance of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" in Nuremberg. Grummer's career took off in the 1930s when she began to perform in opera houses throughout Germany. She quickly gained a reputation for her beautiful voice and her ability to convey emotion through her singing. In 1937, she made her debut at the Berlin State Opera in a performance of Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." This performance was a turning point in her career, and she soon became one of the most sought-after sopranos in Germany. During World War II, Grummer continued to perform in Germany, but she also sang for the troops on the front lines. She was known for her patriotic performances, which helped to boost morale among the soldiers. After the war, she continued to perform in Germany and began to make appearances in other countries, including Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. In 1949, Grummer made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in a performance of Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." This performance was a huge success, and she became a regular performer at the festival. She also began to perform at other major opera houses, including the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
