Lan Shui is a renowned conductor and musician who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born in China in 1957, Shui began his musical journey at a young age, showing a natural talent for the art. He started playing the violin at the age of six and later went on to study at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. After completing his studies, Shui moved to the United States to further his education. He attended the University of Iowa, where he earned a Master's degree in conducting. He then went on to study at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he received a Doctorate in conducting. Shui's career as a conductor began in 1985 when he was appointed as the assistant conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. In 1996, Shui was appointed as the music director of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. One of the highlights of Shui's career with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra was the orchestra's performance at the BBC Proms in 2015.
