Born on February 14, 1953, in Munich, Germany, Oppitz showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He received his first piano lessons from his mother, who was a pianist herself. Oppitz's talent was evident from a young age, and he quickly became recognized as a prodigy. He later continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, where he was taught by Hugo Steurer. Oppitz's talent was quickly recognized, and he won several awards and competitions during his time at the conservatory. In 1973, Oppitz made his debut as a soloist with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1. This performance marked the beginning of a long and successful career as a concert pianist. In addition to his work as a soloist, Oppitz is also a highly respected chamber musician. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and cellist Mischa Maisky. Oppitz is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at several music schools and universities, including the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
