Artist Info
Genre:VocalErnest Lush was a renowned British classical pianist who was born on 26th May 1900 in London, England. He was the youngest of three children born to his parents, who were both musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Lush's parents recognized his musical talent at an early age and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Lush began his piano studies at the age of six with his mother, who was his first teacher. He later studied with several prominent pianists, including Tobias Matthay, Harold Craxton, and Isidor Philipp. Lush's talent and dedication to his craft were evident from an early age, and he quickly gained a reputation as a prodigy. In 1914, at the age of fourteen, Lush made his debut performance at the Queen's Hall in London. He played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 15, with the London Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Sir Henry Wood. The performance was a resounding success, and Lush received critical acclaim for his virtuosic playing. Over the next few years, Lush continued to perform extensively throughout Europe, establishing himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation. He performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. In 1920, Lush made his debut in the United States, performing with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Arturo Toscanini. The performance was a huge success, and Lush was hailed as a musical sensation. He went on to perform extensively throughout the United States, earning a reputation as one of the country's most beloved pianists. Throughout his career, Lush was known for his impeccable technique, his musical sensitivity, and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann. In addition to his performing career, Lush was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London for many years, and his students included many of the leading pianists of the next generation. Lush's career was not without its challenges, however. In 1939, at the outbreak of World War II, he was forced to return to England from the United States, where he had been performing. He continued to perform throughout the war years, often giving concerts in support of the war effort. In 1945, Lush was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for his services to music. He continued to perform and teach until his retirement in the 1960s. Ernest Lush died on 22nd January 1986, at the age of 85. He left behind a legacy as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, and his recordings continue to be admired and studied by musicians and music lovers around the world.More....
