Georges Pludermacher was a French classical pianist born on October 28, 1940, in Paris, France. He was born into a family of musicians, with his father being a violinist and his mother a pianist. Pludermacher began playing the piano at a young age and showed great promise as a musician. Pludermacher studied at the Paris Conservatory, where he was a student of Yvonne Lefébure. He won several awards during his time at the conservatory, including the first prize in piano and chamber music. After completing his studies, Pludermacher went on to win several international competitions, including the Geneva International Music Competition and the Munich International Music Competition. Pludermacher's career as a concert pianist began in the 1960s, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. He performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, and was known for his virtuosic performances of works by composers such as Beethoven, Chopin, and Debussy. One of Pludermacher's most notable performances was his 1975 recording of Beethoven's complete piano sonatas. The recording was highly acclaimed and is still considered one of the definitive recordings of the sonatas. Pludermacher's interpretation of the sonatas was praised for its clarity, precision, and emotional depth. Pludermacher was also known for his collaborations with other musicians, particularly his work with the French cellist Maurice Gendron. The two musicians performed together frequently and recorded several albums together, including a highly regarded recording of Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano. In addition to his work as a performer, Pludermacher was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Paris Conservatory and the École Normale de Musique de Paris, and his students included several successful pianists, including Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and François-Frédéric Guy. Pludermacher received several awards and honors throughout his career, including the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur. He was also a member of the jury for several international music competitions, including the Tchaikovsky International Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Pludermacher continued to perform and record throughout his career, and his recordings remain highly regarded by critics and music lovers alike. He passed away on January 27, 2017, at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest pianists of his generation.
