He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a renowned conductor. Pollini began playing the piano at a young age and showed exceptional talent. He studied at the Milan Conservatory and later at the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome. Pollini made his debut at the age of 18, performing with the Milan Symphony Orchestra. He quickly gained recognition for his technical skill and musicality, and he began to perform in major concert halls around the world. In 1960, he won the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, which launched his international career. Throughout his career, Pollini has been known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann. He has also been a champion of contemporary music, performing works by composers such as Pierre Boulez and Luigi Nono. One of Pollini's most notable performances was his 1976 recording of the complete Beethoven piano sonatas. Pollini has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic.
